My trip to Facebook HQ, London.

So as part of my new role, Thursday of last week saw me heading to the FaceBOOMFacebook headquarters with a colleague.

Located just off Carnaby Street, in west London, I didn’t expect the place to be so BIG! I was very VERY surprised and absolutely LOVED all of theFacebook branding (see below!).

It was really interesting to see inside the offices of Facebook and I look forward to taking more trips there in the near future ;o

The Ivy Restaurant And Bar – Round Two.

It’s my birthday tomorrow and James took me to The Ivy at the weekend to celebrate. We went this time last year; so we’ve now decided to make it a bit of an annual event for my birthday. (This time it took 8 weeks of desperately trying to get dinner reservations! AND we booked 2 months in advance! CRAZY). We had the most amazing meal, I just had to share!

To start I had the Buffalo mozzarella with foccacia, crushed broad bean pesto and vine tomatoes. While James had the grilled squid, chorizo and parsley salad. For mains I had Cornish lamb with sweetbreads & broad bean fricassée. I have to say, the lamb is served pink – this is the most amazing lamb I’ve ever ever aten. Absolutely amazing. I might also add, until I went back onto The Ivy website, I believed my lamb was served on a bed of Fois Gras… I just googled ‘sweetbreads’ and found this definition on Wiki. MENTAL. James had a rib eye steak, which has to be the biggest steak I’ve ever seen! It was huuuuuge! And beyond tasty! This came with a side of fries.

We then had an espresso each before squaring up the bill… Then we moved into The Ivy bar and had a round of cocktails.

Absolutely 5 star food with 5 star service. Brilliant. I can’t wait to go again next year! See you then The Ivy!

Hummingbird Bakery: Portobello Road.

Last weekend we ventured to Notting Hill for a ‘day out’. We were walking down Portobello Road when we saw that the queue outside the Hummingbird Bakery wasn’t as massive as usual; so we queued up.

The bakery itself is pretty small (ALWAYS expect to queue by the way) but when we got inside we were greeted by an amazing aray of cupcakes, carrot cakes, birthday cakes… the lot!

We eventually decided on two cups of tea and the below amazing treats!

I had the Chocolate cupcake with blue vanilla (tasted kind of coconutty – yum yum!) frosting; while James went straight for the Chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting.

Although they were absolutely marvellous, I could literally only eat half of mine. I thought I was going to have a heart attack the frosting was so overwhelming!

But what a treat! Next stop: The Magnolia Bakery: Bleeker Street.

Topshop Boutique: Mini Collar Smock.

Topshop Boutique Mini Collar Smock, £70.

I think this is a great wardrobe staple, especially for SS10! The colourway is spot on, and well, you can never fail with a smock. A smock dress hides a multitude of sins (ahem) and this style is great to wear with tights and boots for colder days or wear with bare legs and wedges for summer! BOOM

Oh Topshop making up new words, again : COATIGAN?

I know I sound like a proper geek but I can’t help but look at other peoples websites with a critical eye now. Notably, Topshop.com have been caught out by my critical eye a lot recently. On Friday my friend Grace saw this COATIGAN on the Topshop website. Firstly, COATIGAN? Are you actually having my eyes out? Coatigan is not a real word. Secondly, by using this silly term in such a manner (see description) you’re hardly going to get your new word in the Oxford Dictionary are you?! DREADFUL Topshop, just DREADFUL.

Topshop.com to me are quite strange in their approach to product descriptions…the description attached to this product is not grammatically correct and is far too wordy. I myself would have written something like:

Wool blend, wrap over jacket with a cosy large collar and self-tie belt. This style  has long sleeves, is hip length and features an all-over polar bear print

NO?

Do you think having a good description can persuade you to buy something online? Or do you not even bother to read into a product description?

I’d really like to hear your thoughts on this, considering I write product descriptions for a living.

All Hail King Johnson!!

A few weeks back a couple of friends of ours (Grace and Steve) were walking home from Islington way and they passed King Boris as he walked past The York pub just on Upper Street. This excited me and James no end as we’re avid fans of the wonderful Mayor of London, Mr Boris Johnson.

This afternoon we went for a lovely stroll along the canal to get some more festive decorations to finish off our festive house… and who did we see? No other than Boris himself, in the flesh! AMAZING. Not only did we see him, but he nodded, yes he ACTUALLY nodded and smiled at us. This is the definition of making someones year! So what was the first thing we did as he passed? We tweeted of course… then we got home to see this…

ACTUALLY beyond excited! I love Boris, long may he hail – infact, BORIS JOHNSON FOR PRIME MINISTER! Imagine the joy he would bring to everyones day if he were Prime Minister. IMMENSE. But yeah, if you read this Mr Boris, you are welcome to our festive house at any time of the year for a cuppa.

What a good day indeed!

AllSaints AW09 Campaign.

Absolutely love the new AllSaints campaign imagery, so I thought I’d collate all the new images into one blog for ease of viewing. The shots look perfectly AllSaints, the photographer and editor have captured the brand perfectly!

My fave AW09 pieces are the ladies Damisi Military Boots, Mens Tread Boots (awaiting delivery), Mens Claxon Trousers/Blazer (awaiting delivery), Illume Tee (awaiting delivery); and of course, and the winter woolies! I’m really looking forward to Autumn to be able to wear it all. The weather is rubbish at the minute, so unpredictable! Thankfully layering is chic this season….
