We first became aware of the infamous Shepherdess Cafe when we bought the NFT Guide To London 2008. Before we moved down to London we made a list of all the places that were MUST SEE/MUST VISIT to eat, drink and be generally merry.
The Shepherdess Cafe was on our list of eateries. We’ve lived in London for two years now and as a matter of pure coincidence, when we moved last summer, we moved to the same street that the Shepherdess Cafe resides on. Strange, but true. We commute past the cafe every day on our routes to work; about 2 weeks ago we were at the traffic lights and saw Mr Jamie Oliver sat in the window of the cafe (the windows are a sight to behold in themselves!).
We’ve never had a chance to get down to the cafe. We’re too lazy to get up ‘early’ for work and it closes at 4pm. However, recently, I’m rubbish at sleeping in on a weekend… So when I woke up at 8am yesterday and couldn’t get back to sleep we decided to actually do something this weekend – “Let’s treat ourselves to the Shepherdess CAFFFF!”. And my god, what a treat!
I ate about a quarter – they give you the biggest portions EVER! All the above and a huge mug of (really nice!) tea came to £12. CHEAP CHEAP.
I have to say though, the sausages just weren’t to the standard of Rossi’s (RIP). But aside from that, it was well ‘lush’.
The Shepherdess Cafe is located on City Road, 5 mins from Old Street tube.
I’ve just got in my my bicycle commute home and I wanted to share my thoughts.
It felt like the most surreal ‘rain’ ever. I actually feel like I’m in the Truman Show. The rain wasn’t like “normal” rain. It was coming down like an actual shower and it wasn’t cold?! SO so weird!! ALSO, the whole of Great Eastern Street was completely water-logged and apart from a few dents in the road, it doesn’t normally even have puddles when it rains! Very strange!
And isn’t she beautiful?? I’m going to pop Alice’s old basket on the front of my new one though. I NEED my basket!
*COMPETITION TIME* Now what shall I name my new bicycle? ANSWERS BELOW PLEASE (I think a postcard would take too long with all these postal strikes!) The best one/one I pick will win a surprise that I’ll post and a full on mention on my blog!! ‘citin. COMPETITION ENDS A WEEK TOMORROW – FRIDAY 7TH AUGUST, 10AM.
Now get those thinking caps on!

Well well well, goodness knows how, BUT, we only managed to get one of the £1 rooms in the infamous ONE POUND SALE!!
So tonight we’re off to stay at the Hoxton and we’re going for drinks and treats around Shoreditch 🙂 I love Shoreditch:)
For those who don’t know, The Hoxton Hotel is a boutique hotel in the centre of London’s ‘cool quarter’, Shoreditch (just off Old Street). Their rooms are quite pricey, rightly so, but every 6 months or so they have a £1 Sale (100 rooms at £1 and 400 rooms at £29, which is sitll an immense bargain!!). You can also book the rooms over a matter of months and arent set to a certain time/date etc, which is dead good too. So it’s an absolute miracle that we managed to bag a £1 room, seen as though hundreds of thousands of people log onto their website as their countdown timer counts down to open the sale! Crazy!
Very excited! We even get breakfast in the morning too! ALL FOR ONE ENGLISH POUND!
So I shall write a full report upon my return!
In the meantime, check out their website…. http://hoxtonhotel.co.uk/
