We first became aware of the infamous Shepherdess Cafe when we bought the NFT Guide To London 2008. Before we moved down to London we made a list of all the places that were MUST SEE/MUST VISIT to eat, drink and be generally merry.
The Shepherdess Cafe was on our list of eateries. We’ve lived in London for two years now and as a matter of pure coincidence, when we moved last summer, we moved to the same street that the Shepherdess Cafe resides on. Strange, but true. We commute past the cafe every day on our routes to work; about 2 weeks ago we were at the traffic lights and saw Mr Jamie Oliver sat in the window of the cafe (the windows are a sight to behold in themselves!).
We’ve never had a chance to get down to the cafe. We’re too lazy to get up ‘early’ for work and it closes at 4pm. However, recently, I’m rubbish at sleeping in on a weekend… So when I woke up at 8am yesterday and couldn’t get back to sleep we decided to actually do something this weekend – “Let’s treat ourselves to the Shepherdess CAFFFF!”. And my god, what a treat!
I ate about a quarter – they give you the biggest portions EVER! All the above and a huge mug of (really nice!) tea came to £12. CHEAP CHEAP.
I have to say though, the sausages just weren’t to the standard of Rossi’s (RIP). But aside from that, it was well ‘lush’.
The Shepherdess Cafe is located on City Road, 5 mins from Old Street tube.
