Firstly, HAPPY NEW YEAR all:) I’ve been a little bit on the quiet side over the holiday season; we’ve had a great old time drinking, eating and being merry!
For this years new years eve, we were at a bit of a loose end… we generally don’t really like NYE that much. I’m usually melancholy before midnight and it’s all a big mess! This year we went for a lovely meal on Upper Street in Islington and then headed back to our local, The Island Queen, as we couldn’t be chewed with the hassle and bustle of Upper Street.
We got seated at the bar and got the Aspalls-a-flowing. But then, James went to the bar at about 10:15 and was refused to be served because we didn’t have a ‘booking’. I was fuming to say the very least! The bar staff said that we had to have a reservation of a table to be able to stay and be served…there were no signs ANYWHERE in the pub stating you would need a reservation ANYWHERE! We had been in the Island Queen only on Boxing Day and there were no signs, nothing on their ‘website’ and the staff certainly didn’t mention anything. I wanted to place a complaint. But I think them losing our custom is more than adequate thanks.
So hey-ho and off we went, straight back to Upper Street… We ended up in Slim Jims at the top end of Upper Street – it’s an excellent bar… if you like New York “dive bars” you will LOVE Slim Jims! And we do, so we do! 🙂 We ended up seeing the New Year in at Slim Jims in the end and had an absolutely brilliant time.
If your ever in about Islington, give Slim Jims‘s a quick detour, you won’t regret it ;o
Wishing you all health, wealth and happiness in 2010!
I’ve just got in my my bicycle commute home and I wanted to share my thoughts.
It felt like the most surreal ‘rain’ ever. I actually feel like I’m in the Truman Show. The rain wasn’t like “normal” rain. It was coming down like an actual shower and it wasn’t cold?! SO so weird!! ALSO, the whole of Great Eastern Street was completely water-logged and apart from a few dents in the road, it doesn’t normally even have puddles when it rains! Very strange!
A few weeks back a couple of friends of ours (Grace and Steve) were walking home from Islington way and they passed King Boris as he walked past The York pub just on Upper Street. This excited me and James no end as we’re avid fans of the wonderful Mayor of London, Mr Boris Johnson.
This afternoon we went for a lovely stroll along the canal to get some more festive decorations to finish off our festive house… and who did we see? No other than Boris himself, in the flesh! AMAZING. Not only did we see him, but he nodded, yes he ACTUALLY nodded and smiled at us. This is the definition of making someones year! So what was the first thing we did as he passed? We tweeted of course… then we got home to see this…
ACTUALLY beyond excited! I love Boris, long may he hail – infact, BORIS JOHNSON FOR PRIME MINISTER! Imagine the joy he would bring to everyones day if he were Prime Minister. IMMENSE. But yeah, if you read this Mr Boris, you are welcome to our festive house at any time of the year for a cuppa.
What a good day indeed!
Terribly sorry to announce…we’ve moved house, again! So no internet for about 3 weeks! Rubbish! I’ll do what I can inbetween the lack of web and unpacking!
I will indeed be posting photos of said new house as we think it’s our best yet! 😀 We love it, and we love Angel Islington!
This is the view of Regents Canal from our living room window!
It literally takes 25 minutes to get to work for me, and about 8 minutes for James to cycle to work! Amazing! No more horrible commute, thanks TFL for nothing!

ALICE R.I.P: May 2006- June 2009.
It’s official, my absolutely beautiful little vintage bicycle, also fondly known as Alice, has died. Her chain broke on a trip to Tesco and because she is an antique no chain is replaceable. Of course I am beyond devastated as she is my pride and joy, however we have decided to keep her as an heirloom and I am now on the search for another bicycle. Alice is also not replaceable and never will be, but alas I must move on, and frankly I can’t afford TFL’s ridic prices, nor can I tolerate their lack of actual transporting. Therefore cycle power it is!
I’m after a little shopper – Alice, to be honest, was a little too big for me, hence why I fell off (I couldn’t touch the floor when I was sat on the saddle), something like the below would be perfect! I’ve got the basket off Alice, so having a basket on the front isn’t a complete necessity; nor is colour because I’m likely to spray paint the new bicycle gold 😀
I can collect from London (and surrounding areas) and can pay cash on collection or you could even have a listing on eBay and I can pay via Paypal and have you send it via courier – whatever is easiest 🙂
