James literally bought this XBOX 360 Arcade console for the latest and greatest Grand Theft Auto release. He also bought Grand Theft Auto seperately. He’s selling both together as a neat package on eBay. He has completed GTA and subsequently has no need for this XBOX now (we’re not console players, apart from the Wii, but that doesn’t count!) So yeah, its ACTUALLY brand new!!

So please please PLEASE help us in our funding for our big bad move to the big bad smoke!

Clearly this package is well sought after, still! So get you bidding guns at the ready! [Please pass on the details of this auction to your family/friends/related parties! Thanks!]

This Wednesday (7th) I shall be getting a stupidly early train to Kings Cross to embark on my very first London working experience, EEEEK. EEEEK is all I can actually say. I’m nervous. I’m apprehensive. I’m thoroughly excited!

I can’t really let too much slip, not at the moment, but basically I’m going to be doing some freelance writing, Wed 7th-Mon 12th. I’m going to be located at Oxford Circus and lapping up the fashion of our good ol’ Capital City. Fingers crossed this week worth stint will lead onto more work and push me forward for more opportunities!!! That would be perfect… and especially so for our big move this summer to the big smoke aswell!

I shall indeed have LOTS AND LOTS to tell upon my return next week, but for now, wish me luck!

The Sunday Sun – 15.10.2006

Two good

By Claire Briston, The Sunday Sun

There are many key colours in autumn/winter collections this year, with palettes ranging from vibrant reds, and burnt oranges to the deep, rich colours of autumnal leaves.

Cardigan £35, stripey dress £60, both Warehouse. Beret £12, grey watch £30, tights £6, all Oasis. Ballet pumps £28, blue necklace £12 both at Topshop.

This week we’ve chosen to concentrate on two versatile key colours that work fabulously together, alone and mixed with pretty much anything you have in your existing wardrobe.

Grey jumper £60, handbag £25, both FCUK. Stripey vest £15, scarf £8, both Oasis. Satin skirt £50, Warehouse. Peacock brooch £12, bracelet £15, both Topshop.

The high street is awash with every shade of purple and grey that you could possibly imagine.

But banish from your mind the memories of old school uniforms and dowdy pinafore dresses . . . these two colours can complement most skin tones, shapes and sizes.

Grey roll neck £30, FCUK. Printed scarf £8, Oasis. Mini dress £55, red tights £6, both Warehouse. Red bag £25, ankle boots £60, red beads £6, all Topshop.

Purples range in tone from the bold and bright to rich and luxurious, while greys can be soft and pastel or heavy charcoal . . . a welcome change from dull, winter blacks.

Grey skirt £45, FCUK. Bell sleeve blouse £3, petrol vest £25, purple belt £2, mustard tights £5, all at Topshop.

But it all has to be done with subtlety. Try wearing a rich, plummy purple or charcoal grey tights as a base and team with a dress in complementing colour.

'Rolling Stones' T- shirt £25, grey skinny jeans £40, red braces £8, ankle boots £70, red bangle £8, all at Topshop. Purple skinny belt £12, Oasis.

Similarly, go for smoky grey or deep purple shoes against a contrasting bottom-half then pair the colours together with a belt, bag or scarf.

When it comes to accessorising this season, try wearing braces. Odd as it may seem, they’re making a comeback.

Grey trousers £50, Warehouse. Blouse £28, blue bangle £8, mustard heels £50, all at Topshop. Frill cardigan £55, bag £45, belt £35, all at FCUK.

Try attaching some bright ones – such as the red Topshop ones we’ve used – to some jeans or a skirt to tie that simple outfit together.

The Sunday Sun – 08.10.2006

Dazzled by the brights.

By Claire Briston, The Sunday Sun.

With the nights drawing in and that autumn chill in the air, this week we focus on the all-important winter coat.

Just because the colder weather is becoming more frequent, it doesn’t mean that you have to revert to dull blacks. Cheer up your wardrobe with some vibrant colour that is awash on the high street this season.

With yellow, purple and vibrant red you really can stand out in the crowd this winter.

Topshop is always quick off the mark and has a fantastic range of functional, yet fashion-led coats available now. Their acid yellow coat is an absolute must-have as the 1960s trend continues this season.

Left - 1950s-style coat £90, from Warehouse. Roll neck £35, from French Connection. Leather bag £70, from Topshop. Right - Black ribbed coat £160, from French Connection. Jumper-dress £50, from Warehouse. Cord cap £12, from Oasis. Scarf £16, grey tights £6, both from Topshop. Crocs boots £34.99, from Office.

If you prefer a tamer coat, then take a peak at the bow detail fitted one with cropped sleeves which is also available in cerise. Just like the shorter coral, caped jacket, this one is perfect for those milder days.

If you just want a simple cosy coat you will be able to team with anything, then how about the black ribbed design from French Connection? It’s functional, smart and perfect for brightening up with accessories.

Or you could head to Warehouse for one of their 1950s-style coats. To jazz up a plain one, add a splash of colour with a thick leather belt, like the teal one featured.

Oasis and Topshop have a great collection of woolly hats and berets. Oasis stock their design with a detachable brooch, so you can show it off on your hat or pin it to your cardigan.

Be ultra chic and very Kate Moss this winter with some vibrant gloves or quirky mitts. They’re eye-catching and extremely practical!

Left - 1960s-style coat £95, from Topshop. Red woollen hat £12, from Warehouse. Purple tights £6, red bag £22, both from Oasis. Crocs boots £34.99, from Office. Right - blue bow-detail coat £95, fuchsia footless tights £5, both from Topshop. Pink jumper £35, from Warehouse.

The Sunday Sun – 01.10.2006

Chic Boutique.

By Claire Briston, The Sunday Sun

This week we stray away from the high street and find ourselves revisiting the treasure trove that is Skirt.

Chic boutique
Left: Nanso jersey dress £78 Tatty Devine owl pendant £45 Amber butterfly pendant £37 Green leather clutch £50, all at Skirt White boots £59.99, Office.
Right: Black slit sleeve evening dress £75, by Modstrom Yellow eel skin shoulder bag £49, Tatty Devine cinderella necklace £45.

This boutique quaintly sits on the beautifully cobbled High Bridge Street in the heart of Newcastle’s cool city centre.

Skirt is quirky and sells unique and special items you’d never find anywhere else. Best of all, there are normally only one or two of each item, so you’ll never look like anyone else! Many are handmade . . . making your purchase feel extra special.

The autumn/winter collection has a very retro 1960’s feel that can be seen in the long, printed mac and jersey dresses we have featured.

The Ivana Helsinki knitted roll-neck top is slightly pricey at £100, but this is a buy you’ll cherish forever, while the top looks like it could have easily fallen from the catwalk.

Evening wear reflects a bygone era. The Nanso sage top and blue skirt are typical of the 1950s. However, it’s the 1940s-style £75 Modstrom black, slit-sleeve dress that steals the show.

Chic boutique
Left: Nanso sage jersey drawstring top £80 Nanso petrol blue skirt £55 Tatty DEvine octopus necklace £36 Navy leather bag £110.
Right: Nanso sage dress with crochet detail £78 Printed mac £105 Nanso large shopper £55 Tatty Devine brooch £30.

Skirt stock a variety of leather and eel-skin handmade handbags, as well as eel-skin clasp purses.

The majority of jewellery is by funky jewellery company, Tatty Devine. Locally, Skirt is the only place to purchase the radical Perspex pieces. Alternatively, you can purchase on-line at www.tattydevine.com.

All clothing this week is from Skirtcheck!!, unless otherwise stated.
